A word from the Rabbi

This weekend, over 2,000 Rabbis from across the globe are gathered in Brooklyn at Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters for our annual international convention. Myself and Rabbi Weinberg will be spending Shabbos in Brooklyn at the convention. It is so very encouraging and heartwarming to spend the weekend with colleagues from around the globe - it's like a family reunion. It is also a weekend of gaining renewed strength and energy to continue the mission the Rebbe has empowered us to do. To learn more about this unique, invigorating convention, click here. You can also read a special article on our website, entitled "The Emissaries" about the Rebbe's vision to change the world. I think you will find it interesting.

Also, this Sunday tune it at 5 pm - the annual banquet culminating the convention will be streaming live on our website! Tune in to be a part of a remarkable extraordinary evening like none other - with over 2,000 Chabad Rabbis and over 1,000 friends and partners of Chabad worldwide. The live broadcast will be available at this link on Sunday: Live Broadcast.

Shabbat Shalom!

Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

P.S. Of course I will be back Sunday morning for the Jewish Learning Institute class, Session 3, at 10am sharp. (Please make every effort to be there by 9:30 or 9:45 so that we can start on time).

the parshah in a nutshell
ParshatChayei Sarah

Sarah dies at age 127 and is buried in the Machpeilah Cave in Hebron, which Abraham purchases from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver.

Abraham's servant, Eliezer, is sent laden with gifts to Charan to find a wife for Isaac. At the village well, Eliezer asks G‑d for a sign: when the maidens come to the well, he will ask for some water to drink; the woman who will offer to give his camels to drink as well, shall be the one destined for his master's son.

Rebecca, the daughter of Abraham's nephew Bethuel, appears at the well and passes the "test". Eliezer is invited to their home, where he repeats the story of the day's events. Rebecca returns with Eliezer to the land of Canaan, where they encounter Isaac praying in the field. Isaac marries Rebecca, loves her, and is comforted over the loss of his mother.

Abraham takes a new wife, Keturah (Hagar) and fathers six additional sons, but Isaac is designated as his only heir. Abraham dies at age 175 and is buried beside Sarah by his two eldest sons, Isaac and Ishmael.

The Storyteller

Abandon the notion that there is a world and there is a G‑d. It is as fallacious as thinking there is a story and there is a storyteller.

There is only the storyteller, expressing himself in the story he tells. There is only the Unknowable, expressing Himself as a world.
