LAST CHANCE TO SUPPORT OUR DINNER EFFORTS - CLICK HERE FOR OPPORTUNITIES

A Word From the Rabbi

At risk of “nudging” I am taking this last opportunity to ask for your support for our Dinner & Journal effort, if you haven’t already sent it in.

Being asked for money, and attending organizational dinners are arguably two of the most un-enjoyable things in life... I fully understand this. Please don’t think I enjoy “hocking” you over and over again for gelt. However, as the Talmud says: “If there is no flour, there is no Torah.” Funds are needed to do anything in this world of ours. And substantial funds are needed if we are going to do substantial things in this world of ours.

We at Chabad are doing some very substantial things. We operate a full service shul providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere that is comfortable to everyone, from the unaffiliated to the most learned. Our preschool and day school offer a well rounded Jewish education alongside an amazing general studies curriculum. (You may have noticed the outstanding results our students scored on the State tests). Our Hebrew School and camp are the talk of the town. We are offering exciting Adult Education and social programs, and we just completed perhaps the most beautiful Mikvah ever built. (See update below).

All of these nice things cost gelt. Once a year (at least) we turn to you for your assistance. Every little bit counts. Please, if you have not already done so, click here to go directly to our website and make an online contribution. Place a Journal ad, whatever you can afford, or purchase some dinner tickets to attend personally to salute Chabad and our worthy honorees. We have some packages available, for example: for $600 you get a full page ad including two dinner tickets.

I take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support and involvement which are integral to the amazing success story of our Chabad House and community. Please G‑d, together, we will continue to grow the level of yiddishkeit, Jewish awareness, knowledge, identity and pride in our community.

Shabbat Shalom!

Our Amazing Mikvah!

Click here to see photos of our amazingly gorgeous mikvah. The mikvah has been approved by the Rabbinic Committee for Mikvahs and is now awaiting rainwater to fill it. As soon as we get two good rains the mikvah will be open to the public, at long last!!!

Our thanks go to Adam Katz who so generously built this out–of-this-world mikvah. Adam, we thank you and bless you with all that is good for this amazing merit of having built a mikvah that will be welcoming and comfortable to the modern, American Jewish woman. Adam built this mikvah in memory of his grandmother Erna Katz, Esther bat Yehoshua HaLevi, mother of Adam’s father, Curtis Katz.

Thank you to Avraham & Gittie Bistritzky of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, who dedicated the naming of this mikvah as the “Mei Menachem Mikvah” in memory of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of blessed memory. How special is it that our community mikvah will be named for the Rebbe.

Please stay tuned for an official Mikvah Dedication Ceremony which will be scheduled for later on in the summer. In the meantime, we hope to open the mikvah without delay, after the rain comes. Please pray for some rain...

Sounds of Sinai
It's been said that if you talk to G‑d, you're a religious person; if G‑d talks to you, you're crazy. I guess that means I'm crazy. G‑d talks to me. Not as frequently as He should, but fairly often

A Long Pole
By law, the menorah stood in a chamber into which only kohanim ("priests") were permitted entry. But the law also states that an ordinary person may light the menorah. What is the point — and lesson — of this legal paradox?

Daily Thought
Higher Reality

We take the laws of nature too seriously. We think of the world as though it exists just as its Creator exists.

Therefore, we have miracles. A miracle is a state of enlightenment that says, “Our reality is nothing but a glimmer of a Higher Reality. In that Higher Truth, there is no world. There is nothing else but Him.”

From the wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson; words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman. To order Tzvi's book, "Bringing Heaven Down to Earth, click here.

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Behaalotecha

Aaron is commanded to raise light in the lamps of the menorah, and the tribe of Levi is initiated into the service in the Sanctuary.

A "Second Passover" is instituted in response to the petition "Why should we be deprived?" by a group of Jews who were unable to bring the Passover offering in its appointed time because they were ritually impure. G‑d instructs Moses on the procedures for Israel's journeys and encampments in the desert, and the people journey in formation from Mount Sinai, where they had been camped for nearly a year.

The people are dissatisfied with their "bread from heaven" (the manna) and demand that Moses supply them with meat. Moses appoints 70 elders, to whom he emanates of his spirit, to assist him in the burden of governing the people. Miriam speaks negatively of Moses and is punished with leprosy; Moses prays for her healing and the entire community waits seven days for her recovery.
