A Word From the Rabbi

Next Tuesday, June 19 corresponding to the 3rd of Tammuz, marks the 13th yahrtzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory. The day of passing of a holy tzadik is an auspicious day to reflect and bond with the tzadik's soul and to ask the tzadik to intercede on High on our behalf. Therefore, the day of the Rebbe's passing, is an opportune time to pray at the Ohel, the Rebbe's resting place in Queens.

If you can't make it in person, I will be at the Ohel on this day together with some tens of thousands of other people from around the world and I would like to pray for you as well at the Rebbe's "Ohel." If you send me your name and mother's name (preferably the Hebrew or Yiddish names), and those of anyone else you would like me to mention, I would be glad to have them in mind as well. If there's a specific need you would like me to pray for, please mention it as well - you can send the names to me by responding to this email. You may also bring your letter to the Chabad Center before next Monday. May all our prayers be fulfilled.

Shabbat Shalom!
Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

Daily Quote
In material matters, one who is "satisfied with his lot" (Ethics of the Fathers 4:1) is an individual of the highest quality; a person possessing this trait will attain the highest levels. In spiritual matters, however, to be satisfied with one's lot is the worst deficiency, and leads, G‑d forbid, to descent and falling...

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Korach

Korach incites a mutiny challenging Moses' leadership and the granting of the kehunah ("priesthood") to Aaron, accompanied by Moses' erstwhile foes, Dathan and Aviram. Joining them are 250 distinguished members of the community, who offer the sacrosanct ketoret (incense) to prove their worthiness for the priesthood. The earth opens up and swallows the mutineers, and a fire consumes the ketoret-offerers.

A subsequent plague is stopped by Aaron's offering of ketoret. Aaron's staff miraculously blossoms and brings forth almonds to prove that his designation as High Priest is Divinely ordained.

G‑d commands that a terumah ("uplifting") from each crop of grain, wine and oil, all firstborn sheep and cattle, and other specified gifts be given to the Kohanim.
