Gan - Morah Chana
Today in Hebrew School we played a really fun Aleph Bet review game. The children then learned all about Noach and his ark. The children all built their own Noach’s ark. The children then learned all about what a Mitzvah is. Every child brought a Mitzvah note home to be filled in by Mom & Dad with a great Mitzvah that they did this week.
Kita Aleph (1) - Morah Chava
Today we played Who Wants to Be Millionaire Parsha Review! We watched the Lamdeini Aleph Bet DVD for letters Tet & Yud. We made covers and the first 2 pages of our Aleph Bet scrapbooks. While the children were working on their scrapbooks Morah Chava was able to sit and read with every student individually. We then learned about the great Mitzvah of Ahavat Yisroel – loving one’s fellow. We read the book, Yossi & Laibel Hot On the Trail which taught us all about Loving Others. During davening (prayer) we talked about why we say Modeh Ani, why we wash our hands in a special way, and what the Shema means. For homework the children should do the Ahavat Yisroel cartoon and practice 3 lines of reading letters with vowels.
Kita Bet (2) - Morah Devorah Leah
Today in class we began a new Torah Parsha (portion) called “Bo.” We learned about the 10th plague and how Hashem took us out of Egypt. The children acted out the going out of Egypt with packed suitcases, did a worksheet and drew pictures of the 10 plagues. We then learned all about “connection.” Train cars connect, people connect through holding hands, kids show their connection to their parents when they do things that their parents ask, and we connect to Hashem when we do Mitzvot that Hashem asks us to do. We made Mitzvah crafts and drew pictures of Mitzvot we did, do and like to do. For homework the kids should match the Mitzvot and connect the Mitzvot to the King (there are many activities listed on the paper, the children should choose the ones that are Mitzvot and connect them to the picture of the King).
Kita Gimmel (3) - Morah Rivkah
Today in class we continued learning about the Mishkan – the traveling Sanctuary that the Jews built in the desert. We learned about what was in the Mishkan and what the purpose of everything there was. We then learned that there are Kohanim and Leviim in the Jewish people. At the times of the Mishkan and the Temple, the Kohanim and Leviim had special jobs. The children then continued making pages in their creation book for the 3rd & 4th day of creation.
Today all of the students got to meet Morah Chana. Because 3rd Grade is so large, we will be splitting the class for next week, and Morah Chana will be the additional teacher. Parents will receive a letter in the mail this week explaining the change and new class structure. Parents are welcome to call Rabbi Weinberg or Morah Rivka at any time to discuss.
Kita Dalet (4) - Morah Ellana
In Davening today we stopped all along davening (prayer) to discuss what we are saying and the meaning of the prayers. We then learned all about Birkat Kohanim (the blessing that the Kohanim say over the Jewish people). The children learned about blessings that each of us can give to another person. The children did a worksheet and we heard a story all about how a blessing came true. Our Mitzvah-pedia curriculum took us to the world of Kosher today. We learned about what makes an animal kosher, why we keep kosher, and the kosher symbols we find on products. In writing we learned the letters Zayin & Chet. We then played a matching game to assess how well the students learned the kosher lesson. For homework the kids have a mini-quiz in writing letters Aleph until Zayin; also kids should review the material learned so far this year for a review game next class and finish the Kohain worksheet.
Kita Hay (5) - Morah Mushky
Today Paula was our chazanit for davening (prayer) and Brett wore the Tzitzit. We began our lessons by reviewing the homework and writing the letter Mem. In parsha (the Torah portion) we learned about Yosef and his brothers and the kids acted out the story in groups. We then had a mini quiz that included “what I like/don’t like about Hebrew School,” who were our 3 forefathers & 4 foremothers. The students should complete the homework worksheet.
Kita Vav (6) - Morah Chaya
This week we continued our lessons about the book of Judges (Shoftim) and the great Jewish leaders of that time such as Shimshon (Samson) and Devorah the prophetess. The students wrote what we can learn from heroes and heroines such as Devorah, Yael and Shimshon. For Life Cycle the students had an in depth lesson into the Jewish calendar. The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar is lunar calendar and is different from the American solar calendar. The students learned about the cycle of the moon, the moon vs. the sun, Jewish leap years and about Jewish birthdays and Jewish names.
Morah Chaya will not be returning back to America and will thus no longer continue as Kita Vav teacher. We thank Rabbi Aryeh Kay for substituting the past 4 weeks. Starting next week the class will get a new teacher, Morah Tanya Waysman. Parents will be receiving a letter in the mail this week explaining the change, etc. Parents are welcome to call Rabbi Weinberg at any time to discuss.
Kita Zayin (7) - Morah Bracha
We began the day by davening (praying) the entire morning prayers and everyone had a chance to wash their hands the Jewish way & make the blessing on the Tzitzit. We continued learning to write our Hebrew letters with our worksheets. Today the students all took a Hebrew writing assessment and a Jewish history assessment. We then played the game, “situations,” all about making good choices. Kita Zayin’s attendance wasn’t great this week, but all students will not want to miss next week’s class which will contain a very special surprise...
