Gan - Morah Chana
Today we began Gan by learning about the Modeh Ani prayer in which we thank Hashem for giving us our soul and giving us a new day in the morning. At the end of davening we sang, “Oseh Shalom.” The children all began learning about Chanukah: how we celebrate Chanukah and how 2000 years ago the wicked King Antiochus ruled over the Jews. We began making our special Chanukah Dreidel story books. We finished by learning the Hebrew word for ice cream, “glida,” which begins with a Gimmel.
Kita Aleph (1) - Morah Chava
Today in class we learned about the time Yosef spent in jail in Egypt with Pharoh’s butcher and butler and how Yosef interpreted Pharoh’s dreams. We took turns telling parts of the story and began drawing the Torah parsha scenes for our Parsha Scenes Flipbook. We reviewed our Aleph-Bet letters until “Tet” and played Aleph-Bet Steal the Salami. We even began making an Aleph Bet scrapbook. Lastly, we reviewed the Mitzvah of Mezuzah. For homework the kids should complete the Aleph Bet matching and fun sheet.
Kita Bet (2) - Morah Devorah Leah
Today we continued learning about the Jews in Egypt and how Hashem saved all of the Jewish children. The kids learned about the first Passover and how the Jews put blood on the doorposts of their homes. We played a “passing over” game and drew our own doorposts. We drew our own Passover table and even smelled the bitter herbs. In Hebrew Language we learned the words Abba and Ima – father and mother - and reviewed our old words. We continued to learn about the Mitzvah of honoring one’s parents. We heard a story with a story picture board, played a situation rotation game matching correct responses to situations involving honoring our parents, made “shhh…parents sleeping” signs to hang on our parents doors, and wrote letters to our mom and dad that parents can expect to get in the mail very soon.
Kita Gimmel (3) - Morah Rivkah
Today we learned the first part of the Chanukah story and began learning Chanukah songs. In our Shabbat lesson, we began a project, making “7 Days of Creation” book. The children are making great progress in their Hebrew writing and we are slowly progressing letter by letter.
Kita Dalet (4) - Morah Ellana
Today during tzedakah, some of the students brought in tzedakah boxes that they made! It was a great touch and we were all very thankful. In Torah today we did a fun review sheet and then learned about the Nazir. The Nazir is a person who decided to dedicate him or herself to Hashem in an extra way. The lesson for us is about overcoming obstacles and doing the right thing even if it is challenging. Our Torah-pedia curriculum took us to the Mitzvah of Lashon Hara (gossip and not-nice speech). The class figured out a riddle about the power of speech and we learned how much power the words we say have. The students divided into groups and prepared skits about saying nice things, and we heard a story about the power of speech. We then began learning the names of the colors in Hebrew and played a fun matching game to learn them well. For homework the kids should write the letters Aleph – Vav 5 times and write 3 things a Nazir can’t do.
Kita Hay (5) - Morah Mushky
This week our chazanit for davening was Emma and Matt wore the class Tzitzit! In Torah we learned about Avraham and his experiences with his nephew Lot, his sons Yitzchak and Yishmael, and his wife Sara. In these stories we saw many choices being made and the outcome of those choices. We learned about making the right choice. We then learned the Chanukah story. Brett Friedberg brought in the Talit and Kipah that his grandparents got him in Israel to show the class! For homework the students should complete the 2 fun sheets about making the right choices and helping those who are needy.
Kita Vav (6) - Morah Chaya
Today Morah Chaya was under the weather and we wish her a Refuah Shelaimah (complete recovery). We want to make special thanks to Morah Gitty for taking over part of the class and teaching the Chanukah story. We had a Q&A session with the Rabbi about the age of the world and the history written in the Torah and played Around the World with questions about Chanukah. We then played Dreidel and completed crossword puzzles and word finds about Chanukah.
Kita Zayin (7) - Morah Bracha
Again we davened (prayed) the entire morning prayers and washed our hands at the sink the Jewish way. We reviewed our Hebrew letter writing and learned the letters Hay, Reish and Kuf. In Jewish history we learned about Alexander the Great and Shimon HaTzadik who lived before the Chanukah story began. We then learned about the Chanukah story and took notes to prepare us for next week’s games and activities. For homework the students should complete the Hebrew writing review sheets.
