CARPOOL TRIP TO THE REBBE'S OHEL THIS SUNDAY MORNING

On Wednesday, April 16, we celebrate the birthday of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory: 11 Nissan 5752 (1902) - 3 Tammuz 5754 (1994). In honor of this special day, we will be taking a community trip to the Ohel, gravesite of the Rebbe (in Queens) on Sunday, April 13, 11:30 AM - immediately following our weekly Torah class. A trip to the Ohel is a time for prayer, reflection and connection and i encourage you to join us. We will travel in a row of cars from Chabad at 11:30 and should be back in town by 1:30 the latest. All are welcome to join us!

A Word from the Rabbi

As Pesach nears and we are all busy with the hustle and bustle of preparations, please do not forget to “sell your chometz”. This is a very small, easily accomplished mitzvah but it means a great deal.

By filling out a simple on-line form which takes about 60 seconds to do, you legally forfeit ownership of any “chometz” – leavened products – which you might have in your possession. This includes all breads, pastas, alcoholic beverages, etc., all products forbidden for us to have in our possession during Passover. If you don't sell the chometz you must physically finish all of these products or throw out whatever you might have. With this “sale” – all you've got to do is put the chometz in a closed off area (e.g. a locked closet, a sealed off room) which you will not use during Passover, and you're good to go! So take moment to fill out the form. It's well worth the minute it takes! Click here and make sure to submit the form BEFORE 11 AM SUNDAY MORNING, APRIL 1st.

Also, make sure your family has a box of hand made Shmura Matzah to use at the seders. This is considered to be a special mitzvah. Shmurah Matzah is available at King Kullen in Port Washington and Manhasset.

Have a kosher and joyous Pesach!

Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

Daily Thought
Sun & Moon

Each one of us is both the sun and the moon.

The sun is constant —every day the same fiery ball rises in the sky. But the moon cycles through constant change —one day it is whole, then it wanes until it has disappeared all together. Yet, then it is renewed, reborn out of nothingness.

So too, we learn and progress by quantum leaps and bounds, yet the timeless, constant wisdom of Torah doesn’t budge from its place. On the contrary, the more we move forward, the deeper we fathom the truths behind us.

From the wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson; words and condensation by Tzvi Freeman. To order Tzvi's book, "Bringing Heaven Down to Earth, click here.

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Tazria

The Parshah of Tazria continues the discussion of the laws of Tumah v'Taharah, ritual impurity and purity.

A woman giving birth should undergo a process of purification, which includes immersing in a mikvah (a naturally gathered pool of water) and bringing offerings to the Holy Temple. All male infants are to be circumcised on the eighth day of life.

Tzaraat ("leprosy") is a supra-natural plague, which also can afflict garments. If white or pink patches appear on a person's skin (dark red or green in garments), a Kohen is summoned. Judging by various signs, such as an increase in size of the afflicted area after a seven-day quarantine, the Kohen pronounces it tameh (impure) or tahor (pure).

A person afflicted with tzaraat must dwell alone outside of the camp (or city) until he is healed. The afflicted area in a garment is removed; if the tzaraat spreads or recurs, the entire garment must be burned.

This being the Shabbat that falls on or before the 1st of Nissan, we also read the section of Hachodesh (Exodus 12:1-20) which relates G‑d's words to Moses in Egypt two weeks before the Exodus, instructing us to set the Jewish calendar by the monthly new moon and to regard Nissan as the "head of months." G‑d also instructs to bring the Passover offering, to eat it with matzah and bitter herbs, and to abstain from leaven for seven days.
