CARPOOL TRIP TO THE REBBE'S OHEL THIS SUNDAY MORNING

On Wednesday, April 16, we celebrate the birthday of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of righteous memory: 11 Nissan 5752 (1902) - 3 Tammuz 5754 (1994). In honor of this special day, we will be taking a community trip to the Ohel, gravesite of the Rebbe (in Queens) on Sunday, April 13, 11:45 AM - following our weekly Torah class. A trip to the Ohel is a time for prayer, reflection and connection and i encourage you to join us. We will travel in a row of cars from Chabad at 11:45 AM and should be back in town by 2:00 the latest. All are welcome to join us!

A Word from the Rabbi

As Pesach nears and we are all busy with the hustle and bustle of preparations, please do not forget to “sell your chometz”. This is a very small, easily accomplished mitzvah but it means a great deal.

By filling out a simple online form which takes about 60 seconds to do, you legally forfeit ownership of any “chametz” – leavened products – which you might have in your possession. This includes all breads, pastas, alcoholic beverages, etc., all products forbidden for us to have in our possession during Passover. If you don't sell the chometz you must physically finish all of these products or throw out whatever you might have. With this “sale” – all you've got to do is put the chometz in a closed off area (e.g. a locked closet, a sealed off room) which you will not use during Passover, and you're good to go! So take moment to fill out the form. It's well worth the minute it takes! Click here and make sure to submit the form by Thursday, April 17, before 5 PM.

Also, make sure your family has a box of hand made Shmura Matzah to use at the seders. This is considered to be a special mitzvah. Shmurah Matzah is available at King Kullen in Port Washington and Manhasset.

Have a kosher and joyous Pesach!

Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

Daily Quote
Why did the Torah ordain that the uncleanness of menstruation should continue for seven days? Because being in constant contact with his wife, a man might develop an apathy towards her. The Torah, therefore, said: Let her be unclean for seven days, in order that she shall be beloved by her husband as at the time that she first entered into the bridal chamber

Daily Thought
Beyond Intellect

Your mind itself no more than a creation, a whim of a Creator who fashioned it from nothing.

To approach the One Who Created Intellect, you need a sense which is beyond intellect and beyond self. We call this sense emuna, which some translate as faith. But this type of faith does not ignore intellect. It takes you far beyond.

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Metzora

Last week's Parshah described the signs of the metzora ("leper") — a person afflicted by a spiritual malady which places him or her in a state of ritual impurity. This week's Torah reading begins by detailing how the recovered metzora is purified by the Kohen (priest) with a special procedure involving two birds, spring water in an earthen vessel, a piece of cedar wood, a scarlet thread and a bundle of hyssop.

A home can also be afflicted with "leprosy" by the appearance of dark red or green patches on its walls. In a process lasting as long a nineteen days, a Kohen determines if the house can be purified or it must be demolished.

Ritual impurity is also engendered through a seminal or other discharge in a man, and menstruation or other discharge of blood in a woman, necessitating purification through immersion in a mikvah.
