A Word From the Rabbi

I am proud to report to you of the success of the Mikvah Dedication event this past Sunday night. It was truly an elegant affair, candlelight dinner, open bar, valet parking, etc. enjoyed by all. If you missed it, we missed you as well. All the guests were given “tour cards” and patiently waited their turn to tour our gorgeous mikvah. The “oohs” and “aahs” were flowing freely as people expressed their pleasant surprise at how beautiful the mikvah turned out to be.

Adam spoke of his pride on how the mikvah turned out and his joy in being able to give and help build Torah and yiddishkeit in our community. An announcement was made that the steel frame for the new anticipated two story expansion of the Chabad House is scheduled to go up within three weeks. Please watch for the exciting developments in the expansion.

As the proud husband I kvelled and shepped nachas on her speech as well as the way she presented it, with such poise and dignity. Click here to read Sara's speech. She touched upon the basic points of why mikvah is such an important mitzvah in Judaism and the great gift it can be to any marriage. Sara asked me to invite anyone interested in learning more to contact her (767-3372) for a private discussion on the subject, or you may contact Rivky our mikvah coordinator (315-3471).

Daily Quote
A chassid is a lamplighter. The lamplighter walks the streets carrying a flame at the end of a stick. He knows that the flame is not his. And he goes from lamp to lamp to set them alight.

Life After Death

Confidence & Humility

Confidence is best found among the truly humble.

Moses was the most humble of all men. Yet he had the confidence to stand before the mightiest dictator on earth and assert his demands. He had the confidence to stand before G‑d and listen without losing his composure. He had the confidence even to argue with G‑d, when necessary.

Yet he considered himself to be nothing.

The confidence of Moses was not confidence in his own self. He had no self. He was but an agent of Above. Above there is infinite power.

Self-confidence is limited, at best. But if you trust in the One who has sent you to be here and do what you need to do —that confidence knows no bounds.

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Chayei Sarah

Sarah dies at age 127 and is buried in the Machpeilah Cave in Hebron, which Abraham purchases from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver.

Abraham's servant, Eliezer, is sent laden with gifts to Charan to find a wife for Isaac. At the village well, Eliezer asks G‑d for a sign: when the maidens come to the well, he will ask for some water to drink; the woman who will offer to give his camels to drink as well, shall be the one destined for his master's son.

Rebecca, the daughter of Abraham's nephew Bethuel, appears at the well and passes the "test". Eliezer is invited to their home, where he repeats the story of the day's events. Rebecca returns with Eliezer to the land of Canaan, where they encounter Isaac praying in the field. Isaac marries Rebecca, loves her, and is comforted over the loss of his mother.

Abraham takes a new wife, Keturah (Hagar) and fathers six additional sons, but Isaac is designated as his only heir. Abraham dies at age 175 and is buried beside Sarah by his two eldest sons, Isaac and Ishmael.
