A Word From the Rabbi

Oy! It's that time of year again... Rather than looking at it as a burden, we can recognize the upcoming High Holiday month of Tishrei for what it is meant to be: An annual Inspiration-Fest; its various holidays and festival offering a smorgasbord of opportunities for spiritual empowerment and inspiration to last us throughout the entire year of 5768. Friends, since we are going to be observing the holidays anyway, we might as well enjoy them by realizing the gifts and blessings they give us for the entire year. Let us utilize this virtual fair of spiritual empowerment. Make it your business to be there at shul to participate in as many services as possible. (See the complete, corrected schedule of services below)

By now you've surely taken care of placing your High Holiday reservations for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Why not set your family up for the second half of the festival month: make your family feel a part of this very special Sukkot holiday by purchasing your very own set of Lulav & Etrog (available through Chabad for $30). Also, consider putting up your own sukkah in the backyard! The sukkah is easy to assemble, can be used year after year, it's inexpensive and allows you the opportunity to do a mitzvah that goes back thousands of years! Best of all, we can deliver the sukkah right to your doorstep! Ensure that your family is included in the Holiday spirit - click here to purchase your lulav & etrog and/or Sukkah!

Best wishes for a Shabbat Shalom & Shana Tova!

Daily Quote
The chassidim of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi used to say: Our Rebbe revives the dead. What is a corpse? Something cold and unfeeling. Life is movement, warmth, excitement. Is their anything as frozen in self-absorption, as cold and unfeeling as the mind? And when the cold mind understands, comprehends, and is excited by a G‑dly idea - is this not a revival of the dead?

Daily Thought
All of You

Where your thoughts are

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Ki Tavo

Moses instructs the people of Israel: When you enter the land that G‑d is giving to you as your eternal heritage, and you settle it and cultivate it, bring the first-ripened fruits (bikkurim) of your orchard to the Holy Temple, and declare your gratitude for all that G‑d has done for you.

Our Parshah also includes the laws of the tithes given to the Levites and to the poor, and detailed instructions on how to proclaim the blessings and the curses on Mount Grizzim and Mount Ebal — as discussed in the beginning of the Parshah of Re'ei. Moses reminds the people that they are G‑d's chosen people, and that they, in turn, have chosen G‑d

The latter part of Ki Tavo consists of the Tochachah ("Rebuke"). After listing the blessings with which G‑d will reward the people when they follow the laws of the Torah, Moses gives a long, harsh account of the bad things — illness, famine, poverty and exile — that shall befall them if they abandon G‑d's commandments.

Moses concludes by telling the people that only today, forty years after their birth as a people, have they attained "a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear."
