You can also drop off your check at Chabad, 80 Shore Road, Port Washington or call in your donation: 516-767-TORAH.

News at Chabad

CTC had its first trip of the year on the first Saturday night of Chanukah to go see MATISYAHU at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC! Our group of 40 strong boarded the train amidst great excitement. The show was great and Matisyahu even left the stage together with Rabbi Ilan to dance through the crowd, coming right into the section where the CTC was sitting. After the show CTC'ers got the opportunity to meet the star and have some pictures taken. The trip was awesome and CTC'ers are looking forward to a new year of community service and especially to the mid-winter Shabbaton in February. ~~~ If you passed by Shop & Stop or King Kullen on Sunday December 3rd you were surely greeted by the CTC conducting its annual holiday Food & Toy Drive. Taking the cold weather in stride, CTC'ers raised hundreds of pounds of non-perishable foods and toys for distribution at area shelters and soup kitchens. Great job CTC.

Bat Mitzvah Club tours Brooklyn! On Sunday December 3rd the Bat Mitzvah Club traveled to Crown Heights Brooklyn for a tour of the world famous Jewish Children's Museum during which they saw innovative Chanukah production, Macabees. After the tour the girls made their way through the shops of Kingston Avenue and got a great pizza dinner. Thanks to David & Fern Weingast for helping with transportation.

The Port Washington Chanukah Family Extravaganza a great success this year. Kids of all ages got to participate in fun booths from donut decorating to building a gigantic Lego menorah to the menorah squirt out competition. There were many beautiful crafts and lots of great food. As an added bonus, Judah Macabee was present for pictures. (Photos of the event can be seen at www.chabadpw.org)

Daily Thought
Strong Inside

The ego is not a source of strength. It is weakness in disguise.

Inside there is invincible strength. Remove the cloud of the mind's ego, and the inner power will shine through.

The Parshah In a Nutshell
Parshat Vayigash

Judah approaches Joseph to plead for the release of Benjamin, offering himself as a slave to the Egyptian ruler in Benjamin's stead. Upon witnessing his brothers' loyalty to one another, Joseph reveals his identity to them. "I am Joseph," he declares. "Is my father still alive?"

The brothers are overcome by shame and remorse, but Joseph comforts them. "It was not you who sent me here," he says to them, "but G‑d. It has all been ordained from Above to save us, and the entire region, from famine."

The brothers rush back to Canaan with the news. Jacob comes to Egypt with his sons and their families — seventy souls in all — and is reunited with his beloved son after 22 years. On his way to Egypt he receives the Divine promise: "Fear not to go down to Egypt; for I will there make of you a great nation. I will go down with you into Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again."

Joseph gathers the wealth of Egypt by selling food and seed during the famine. Pharaoh gives Jacob's family the fertile county of Goshen to settle, and the children of Israel prosper in their Egyptian exile.
