More than 125 members of the Jewish community in Wilmington, N.C., celebrated a historic occasion: the completion of what is believed to be the first-ever Torah scroll dedicated in the southern city.
“This was indeed a historic day,” pronounced Rabbi Moshe Lieblich, director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Wilmington. “Every family that attended got the honor of writing their very own letter [in the scroll].”
The event was sponsored by Dr. Warren and Marlene Sobol of Dayton, Ohio, in honor of their parents, Dr. Arnold and Faye Sobol and Carl and Lillian Ganz.
