NEXT SHABBAT, FEBRUARY 15 • DINNER CATERED BY PRESTIGE

A Word from the Rabbi

Big Mazel Tov on the Giants' amazing upset victory! I wish you upset victories in your own life. May you succeed beyond your wildest dreams in areas in life as important to you as the Superbowl is to the Giants!

Jewish fans (and their non-Jewish friends) all over the Metro area are talking about the tefillin and prayers bringing the Giants over the top. After all, no one expected this win. The conversation was only how badly they would lose to New England. It’s also telling that the catch that brought about the win was caught right at the helmet, right at the spot where the Tefillin are worn (as reported to me by Alan Salzbank who also offered this particular commentary).

Seriously friends. We’re having fun with this, and no one knows if Hashem really cares who wins. Nevertheless, the fact is that a bunch of non-practicing Jews decided to lay Tefillin which clearly makes Hashem happy. The main character of the story, Greenfield from Roslyn, is laying Tefillin now three times a week. Why not consider this mitzvah yourself!? It’s tremendous, feels good, takes 5 minutes a day and brings untold blessings. If you are looking to score big in your life, Tefillin (and for the women lighting the candels on Friday nights) can bring super results!

If you are interested in learning more about Tefillin please contact me. I will be happy to help you obtain your own pair of tefillin and teach you how to do it. We have about two dozen guys already in our tefillin club from the past two years alone, who are doing this mitzvah daily and enjoying the benefits.

FYI – Click here for more into on tefillin and a step-by-step guide on how to put them on. Also, click here for a fascinating article published in the Journal of Chinese Medicine about the amazing correspondence of tefilin to Chinese medicine and how tefillin touches each of the important accupuncture points in the human body. Quite interesting!

Shabbat Shalom

PS we need a last minute Kiddush sponsor. Maybe consider sponsoring Kiddush in honor of the Giants’ victory... email [email protected] if you can do it.

Judaism is Nice, But Isn't it More Important to Feed the Hungry?
We spend so much money, time and energy on synagogues, Jewish schools religious institutions. Wouldn't it be better if we applied all those resources to alleviating all the suffering that goes on in the world?

Daily Thought
Beyond Reason

The world is not a reasonable place.

Meet it on its own terms: When you do something good, do it beyond reason.

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Terumah

The people of Israel are called upon to contribute fifteen materials — gold, silver and copper; blue, purple and red-dyed wool; flax, goat hair, animal skins, wood, olive oil, spices and gems — out of which, G‑d says to Moses, "They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, and I shall dwell amidst them."

On the summit of Mount Sinai, Moses is given detailed instructions on how to construct this dwelling for G‑d so that it could be readily dismantled, transported and reassembled as the people journeyed in the desert.

In the Sanctuary's inner chamber, behind an artistically woven curtain, was the Ark containing the Tablets of Testimony engraved with the Ten Commandments; on the Ark's cover stood two winged cherubim hammered out of pure gold. In the outer chamber stood the seven-branched Menorah and the Table upon which the "showbread" was arranged.

The Sanctuary's three walls were fitted together from 48 upright wooden boards, each of which was overlaid with gold and held up by a pair of silver foundation sockets. The roof was formed of three layers of coverings: (a) tapestries of multi-colored wool and linen; (b) a covering made of goat-hair; (c) a covering of ram and tachash skins. Across the front of the Sanctuary was an embroidered screen held up by five posts.

Surrounding the Sanctuary and the copper-plated Altar which fronted it was an enclosure of linen hangings, supported by 60 wooden posts with silver hooks and trimmings and reinforced by copper stakes.
