A word from the Rabbi

I don't feel the need for long messages. Most of you hear plenty from me this time of year...

I just want to say how much I enjoyed Rosh Hashana with all of you. I felt a spirit of warmth and community along with joy and optimism. I look forward to spending Yom Kippur with you as well. Please look forward to a most meaningful, inspiring, enjoyable service in a relaxed atmosphere.

Thank you to Joel and his staff, the security people, and the ushers who volunteered their time to make sure things ran smoothly. A very special thank you to Alan Salzbank for his welcoming, humorous words, and to Rabbi-Cantor Yankel Wilschansky for doing such an outstanding job on leading the services.

Big kudos of appreciation to Rabbi Weinberg and his team of staff and teen volunteers Alison Salstein, Esther Fogel, Lauren Effune, Nina Ruben, and Sara Salzbankfor running the Junior Congregation programs in such a professional manner. (Special thanks, W, for the impromptu speech on Day 2 as a stand in for Alan). Last but not least: If you noticed that the shul was much brighter this year, thanks Bryan Sherman (aka Chaim) who donated the new, brighter, much-more-efficient lighting, and personally installed them (with help from David Clontz and Joel). Thank you, Bryan. You really made a difference in the holiday for all of us (not to mention reducing Chabad’s electric bills for years to come).

Sara and I would like to wish you a Happy New Year. May this year, 5769, be filled with health, happiness, prosperity, yiddishkeit, love, joy, contentment, focus and meaning for you and yours! (OK - I promised no speeches...)

Shabbat Shalom & an easy fast!

Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel

Lulav / Etrog and
Sukkah Orders:

Make your family feel a part of this very special Sukkot holiday by purchasing your very own set of Lulav & Etrog (available through Chabad for $30). Also, consider putting up your own sukkah in the backyard! The sukkah is easy to assemble, can be used year after year, it's inexpensive and allows you the opportunity to do a mitzvah that embraces your entire family in the same way our ancestors were embraced by Hashem’s clowds during their 40 year sojourn in the Sinai Dessert. Like I tell my media friends about an event I want them to cover: The Sukkah certainly brings with it lots of exciting, memorable visuals, smells and experiences that your family will look forward to for the rest of the year until next Sukkos. Best of all, we can deliver the sukkah right to your doorstep! Ensure that your family is included in the Holiday spirit - click here to purchase your own lulav & etrog and/or Sukkah!

Have You Seen G‑d?
If, when we awaken, marvel at the fact that we are alive, then we know that while we slept, it was G‑d who gave rest to our soul, who renewed that spark within it. the parshah in a nutshell
ParshatVayelech

The Parshah of Vayelech ("And He Went") recounts the events on Moses' last day of earthly life. "I am one hundred and twenty years old today," he says to the people, "and I can no longer go forth and come in." He transfers the leadership to Joshua, and writes (or concludes writing) the Torah in a scroll which he entrusts to the Levites for safekeeping in the Ark of the Covenant.

The mitzvah of Hak'hel ("Gather") is given: every seven years, during the festival of Sukkot of the first year of the shemittah cycle, the entire people of Israel — men, women and children — should gather at the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, where the king should read to them from the Torah.

Vayelech concludes with the prediction that the people of Israel will turn away from their covenant with G‑d causing Him to hide His face from them, but also with the promise that the words of the Torah "shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants."

Stake your Claim

The person who desires good is met by its opposite at every turn.

Is it fair? It is more than fair: You cannot lay rightful claim to anything good unless you have discovered it on your own.

Hiding beneath the evil lies the greatest good, awaiting your discovery.
