Passing The Puck On Purim
While away from home, the struggling “Persian Exiles” had a major faceoff with offensive lead, Haman of the “Amalek Snakes.” Things looked good for the Exiles as the head coach, G‑d, had already led the team to many victories against the Phantom Philistines, and the Greek Grapes. But, Achashverosh, the g
oalie, was letting too many of Haman’s power play goals go by. His rookie defense, Queen Esther, was recently called in from the minors and was a key assist. In overtime, scorer Mordechai pulled through with a winning goal as the referee called a penalty on the Snakes for interference. They faced the ultimate high sticking while the Exiles won the playoffs to become the champions.
The Exiles remember this great day with a keepsake megillah, hamantashen – not available at the concession stands, and noisemaking gragger souvenirs. Fans are invited as the NY Islanders celebrate this festive Jewish holiday, Purim, with the help of Rabbi Paltiel, Captain of the Chabad of Port Washington.
In an unprecedented move that translated into a moving and exciting evening, Rabbi Paltiel lit the menorah for an Islanders’ pre-Chanukah ceremony at Nassau Coliseum on Monday, December 3 — sporting an Islanders jersey with the title “Rabbi” and the number 18. Come see Rabbi Paltiel in action again (maybe this time, they’ll let him play, too) on Tuesday, March 18, during the Islanders game against Maple Leafs. Purim-themed Thunderstix for the first 5,000 fans, personal purim guides for all, and a captivating Purim message are some of the evening’s highlights.
