Dear Editor,

I want to tell you why I think my mother, Sara Paltiel, deserves to win “Mother of the Year” for Port Washington, hands down:

First of all, Mom takes the cake in the beauty department. She is gorgeous!

Secondly, my mother is the most capable woman I have ever met. Catch this (maybe you should sit down first):

She is the mother of eight children ranging in age from 16 to 2. She looks after all of us in every way. This includes making sure we all well fed (only healthy, organic and nutritious food of course, with lots of fruits and vegies), well dressed, well-behaved (most of the time), and that each of us is doing well at school (again, most of the time).

Now running a very busy, efficient household is not all she does. Mom is a busy career woman serving as Executive Director at the Chabad House where she oversees the business side of the elementary school with more than 45 employees and over 200 students. From the moment she comes into her office until the moment she leaves she is busy meeting with staff, talking to parents and making important decisions. By the way, one of my mother’s greatest strengths is her ability to make wise decisions very quickly. She is the Advisor ‘N Chief. She’ll get calls from old friends, living half way across the world, looking to get her opinion on an important decision.

What amazes me most about my special mother is the fact that she never sacrifices her family for her career. Mom never left any of us home with a nanny. From infancy mom would take us in to work and carry us in her Baby Bijon, or let us play in her executive playpen, while she went about her business. Mom gets a little bit of help from a cleaning lady. She doesn’t mind trusting the home and all our possessions to the cleaning lady; but not her precious children. She always kept us close to her and gave us the love and nurturing that a kid needs when they’re little. (I guess that’s why we turned out to be such a great bunch).

So you see - my mother has it all. Good looking, talented, hard working and just the most caring mom a kid could want! She does so much, while always (…most of the time) keeping a calm, upbeat demeanor.

So dear reader: After reading that, don’t you agree my mom, Sara Paltiel, deserves to be nominated “Mother of the Year?” How about: “Super Mother of the Year!”
