Passover with CHabad

A Word from the Rabbi
Rabbi Paltiel

Pass It Over

It's all for the children! They are the ones who say the Four Questions at the seder. They are the ones who find the Afikoman. Many Passover traditions were custom-made specifically to keep the interest of the children throughout the evening.

These all reflect the true theme of this holiday "Vihigadita Libincha" to tell it to your children . We have the responsibility to give over our Judaism to the next generation and in such an inspiring and hands on way that they will be proud to teach their children! Amidst all our Passover preparations, please make time to Pass It Over!

Shabbat Shalom, Chag Someiach!

Rabbi Shalom M Paltiel

The Rebbe's Birthday

The Rebbe

Friday, the 11th of Nissan, is the Rebbe's 111th birthday. In Judaism we don't stop counting after a person's passing, because the soul lives on. Friday is a very special day, the day Al-Mighty G‑d gifted the world with the luminous soul of this gigantic human being, back in 1902.

JLI Course

New JLI course | Curious Tales of the Talmud:
Finding Personal Meaning in the Legends of our Sages

Everyone loves a good story. Knowing this, the sages of the Talmud used stories to encode messages about life that are far too deep and profound to communicate directly. This course decodes some of these extraordinary Talmudic mysteries to uncover layer within layer of insight into the nature of life, the universe, G‑d, and man.

Question of the Week
Question of the week
The Roosters and the Frogs By: Rabbi Aron Moss | Sydney, Australia

Question: When it comes to the Pesach Seder, I always get stuck in the ten plagues that were visited on the Egyptians. The Nile River turns to blood, the land is covered in frogs, the people riddled with lice. It all sounds a bit weird. Why would the Almighty G‑d afflict a people with these particular plagues? He could have just zapped them, and yet He sends them... frogs?!?

Daily Thought
No Limits

We never got used to Egypt. We never felt we belonged there. We never said, "They are the masters and we are the slaves and that's the way it is." So when Moses came and told us we were going to leave, we believed him.

Everyone has their Egypt. You've got to know who you are and what are your limitations. But heaven forbid to make peace with them. The soul within you knows no limits.

The Dynamic of Sacrifices
There is no getting around it: the Torah talks a lot about animal sacrifices. With all the spiritual opportunities available to us, why are we missing the sacrificing of an actual animal?

Why G‑d Didn't Delegate

G‑d in Love

The Parshah In A Nutshell
Parshat Tzav
G‑d instructs Moses to command Aaron and his sons regarding their duties and rights as kohanim ("priests") who offer the korbanot (animal and meal offerings) in the Sanctuary.

The fire on the Altar must be kept burning at all times. In it are burned the wholly consumed ascending offering; veins of fat from the peace, sin and guilt offerings; and the " handful" separated from the meal offering.

The kohanim eat the meat of the sin and guilt offerings, and the remainder of the meal offering. The peace offering is eaten by the one who brought it, except for specified portions given to the kohen. The holy meat of the offerings must be eaten by ritually pure persons, in their designated holy place and within their specified time.

Aaron and his sons remain within the Sanctuary compound for seven days, during which Moses initiates them into the priesthood.
