A word from the Rabbi

There are many methods of educating, or passing on a message.

Some teachers preach, others speak inspiring words, and then you have the creative people who use hands-on methods. All these are excellent for transmitting information, but when it comes to teaching morality, teaching a way of life, none of these methods are strong enough.

The Rebbe changed many lives, but not by preaching and not by lecturing. He was simply a living example. His love for each and every Jew and his self sacrifice for the ideals of Judaism inspired a whole generation.

As we commemorate his 17th Yahrtzeit, it would be timely to reflect on his exemplary life and let ourselves be inspired once again.

Join me this Sunday at 10 AM as we learn about this very special human being with which our generation was blessed and we visit his gravesite for prayers and inspiration.

Tens of thousands travelled to New York this week to visit there in honor of the yahrzeit. We are fortunate to be just a short car ride away. Shall we?

In the News

The Rebbe and the 4th of July

The American ideals of freedom of religion and freedom of speech were revolutionary when they were created in a world where tyranny and oppression were the norm.

Birthdays, anniversaries and holidays share this common theme: They are important enough that we stop our daily routine. We note the impact on our lives of that day in history. In many cases, these dates were game-changers involving milestone events or defining ideas.

Question of the Week
Is Reincarnation a Waste of Time?

By: Rabbi Aron Moss
Sydney, Australia

Question:

What is the difference between a rabbi and a Rebbe? I have been reading up on the Rebbe and he was obviously a great man. But what makes someone a Rebbe and not a regular rabbi?

Answer:

There are many differences, too many to list here, but one is this: A rabbi answers questions, a Rebbe answers people. A rabbi hears what you say with your mouth, a Rebbe hears what you are saying with your soul...

Daily Thought

Connecting

A true master of life never leaves this world
-he transcends it, but he is still within it.

He is still there to assist those who are bonded with him with blessing and advice, just as before, and even more so.

Even those who did not know him in his corporeal lifetime can still create with him an essential bond.

The only difference is in us:
Now we must work harder to connect.

the parshah in a nutshell
Parshat Balak
Balak, the king of Moab, summons the prophet Balaam to curse the people of Israel. On the way, Balaam is berated by his ass, who sees, before Balaam does, the angel that G‑d sends to block their way. Three times, from three different vantage points, Balaam attempts to pronounce his curses; each time, blessings issue forth instead. Balaam also prophesies on the end of the days and the coming of Moshiach.

The people fall prey to the charms of the daughters of Moab, and are enticed to worship the idol Peor. When a high-ranking Israelite official publicly takes a Midianite princess into a tent, Pinchas kills them both, stopping the plague raging among the people.
