A word from the Rabbi

NEVER AGAIN.

These two important words, which I've heard uttered hundreds of times since my earliest childhood, suddenly take on new meaning in a world where Israel is becoming increasingly isolated from the international community. We live in a time where our homeland (and our people everywhere) suffers from a global smear campaign of "Protocol of the Elders of Zion" proportions. Millions of well meaning Americans are confused as to who is the villain and who is the victim in the Middle East conflict. These times call for more awareness, and involvement on the part of each of us. Just months away from a U.N. vote on declaring unilateral statehood to our sworn enemies, Yom Hashoah services take on that much more importance.

Please join me at Shul tomorrow. Together, we will remember and pay tribute to the Six Million "kdoshim". We will also reflect and inspire each other to more involvement to insure that NEVER AGAIN does not become a mere slogan (Heaven forbid). Perhaps most importantly, we will pray to our Father in Heaven to watch over His beloved children, just as He has throughout our miraculous 3300 year history.

I know the 6 million will be praying along with us from On High... I also know Hashem will answer our prayers.

Shabbat Shalom!

Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

P.S. Shabbat Services begin at 9:30am; Torah Reading and Shoah servcies at 11am. Kiddush Luncheon at noon.

Question of the Week
What's the Rush?

By: Rabbi Aron Moss
Sydney, Australia

What is the connection between eating matzah and escaping from Egypt? I know that the Jews left Egypt in such a rush, the dough didn't have time enough to rise. The men would have been saying to their wives, "Honey we gotta go in 10 minutes, just grab some food and let's go!!"

So they happened to eat matzah - who cares? It doesn't seem at all significant. Why is matzah elevated to be main focus of the whole Pesach experience? I think Pesach is about freedom, not food!

Daily Thought

Walking Miracle

Any Jew alive on the face of this planet today is a walking miracle. Our mere existence today is wondrous, plucked from the fire at the last moment again and again, with no natural explanation that will suffice.

Each of us alive today is a child of martyrs and miracles.

The Parshah In A Nutshell

Parshat Kedoshim
The Parshah of Kedoshim begins with the statement: "You shall be
holy, for I, the L-rd your G‑d, am holy." This is followed by dozens of mitzvot (Divine commandments) through which the Jew sanctifies him- or herself and relates to the holiness of G‑d.

These include: the prohibition against idolatry, the mitzvah of charity, the principle of equality before the law, Shabbat, sexual morality, honesty in business, honor and awe of one's parents, and the sacredness of life.

Also in Kedoshim is the dictum which the great sage Rabbi Akiva called a cardinal principle of Torah, and of which Hillel said, "This is the entire Torah, the rest is commentary"- Love your fellow as yourself.
