Wow! What a great celebration of 20 years! And what a magical moment cutting the ribbon and affixing the Mezuzah to a brand new gorgeous gymnasium!
It was especially meaningful holding the annual event in our own home at Chabad. Many of our friends and supporters now got to see first hand our beautiful Chabad House.
Our gratitude to the man of the evening, our president Adam Katz, who was visibly moved and overwhelmed by the magnitude of the evening, unveiling such a grand space which will do so much good, and will carry his name proudly.
I thank my wife Sara for leading the charge to organize everything from the menus to the decor, from the flowers to the stage and table cloths, everything you saw, felt and tasted from the moment you walked in the front door to the moment you picked your Tshirt and car at the back entrance...
Our esteemed honorees - John Maura and Bryan & Orly Sherman - all spoke eloquently. Of course my son Levi took the house down and made us all so proud with his powerful words of Jewish pride and community unity. The lucky winners of the exciting silent auction and split the pot went home with fabulous prizes and big smiles on their faces!
The electricity in the room was palpable, during the exciting program and spirited dancing. We all felt part of the Chabad "mishpocho" (or the familia - "tanta pizani" in Italian...) and that our Chabad is at the threshold of a new explosion of growth and activity, brought about through this amazing gym. (By the way, I forgot to mention: 4 more baskets are being installed, so there will be two smaller courts and one full size court. Also, an electric score board is bring installed).
Special thanks to so many who did so much to make things look and work out the way they did: Randye Hubsher, Marcy Shurka, Tami Ruben, Sydney Ruben, Joel Avelarde, Rob Salzbank our legendary photographer for graciously donating his services (click here to see dinner photos), Gary Wallin Orchestras who did an amazing job with music, video and sound, Prestige Caterers for a flawless job, Tammy Polastek of Aristocratic by Design for the fabulous job in designing everything from the front lobby, the library, the "cocktail room" and the ballroom itself (with input from Sara of course...) and so many others I'm sure I missed. Special thanks to my new best friend Jay Baron, Adam's in house architect and GC for making this miracle come together literally in weeks, every last piece of the gym and the beauty of the design so marveled by all last night. And to Sheryl Pinner for her invaluable assistance and input into important areas of design.
And to you, for your friendship and support of Chabad, in a word, THANKS!
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Shalom M. Paltiel

Since it is prohibited to possess chametz on Pesach, any chametz left undisposed must be sold to a non-Jew. [Any chametz remaining in the possession of a Jew during Pesach may not be used, eaten, bought or sold even after Pesach.] Therefore, all chametz that will not be eaten or burned before Pesach and all chametz utensils that will not be thoroughly cleaned by then should be stored away.

UNESCO decision about Rachel's Tomb
Please read the below article and if you are so inclined, click the link at the bottom to add your name to the petition to halt the re-naming (and historical erasing) of two of Judaism's most important historical and religious sites into two Muslim sites. Then, if you are further moved, please forward this far and wide to ensure more people have the opportunity to be counted.

Why do we Rush to Funerals?
By: Rabbi Aron Moss
Sydney, Australia
What is behind the Jewish custom to bury someone almost immediately after they pass away? Other religions wait a few days or sometimes weeks before laying their dead to rest, yet we seem in a hurry to get them buried, often within 24 hours of death. What is the rush?

Parshat Metzora Last week's Parshah described the signs of the metzora (" leper") — a person afflicted by a spiritual malady which places him or her in a state of ritual impurity. This week's Torah reading begins by detailing how the recovered metzora is purified by the Kohen (priest) with a special procedure involving two birds, spring water in an earthen vessel, a piece of cedar wood, a scarlet thread and a bundle of hyssop.
A home can also be afflicted with "leprosy" by the appearance of dark red or green patches on its walls. In a process lasting as long a nineteen days, a Kohen determines if the house can be purified or it must be demolished.
Ritual impurity is also engendered through a seminal or other discharge in a man, and menstruation or other discharge of blood in a woman, necessitating purification through immersion in a mikvah.
