Dressing for Success, Part 1: The Practical

Jewish law even gives guidance as to how we should get dressed in the morning.

Rabbi Mendel Kaplan is the Spiritual Leader and Executive Director of Chabad Flamingo in Thornhill, Ontario, serving one of Canada’s most dynamic Jewish communities. He also serves as Chaplain of the York Regional Police Service. He is an active member of Toronto’s Vaad HaRabbanim (Council of Orthodox Rabbis), and a voting member of the COR Kashruth Council of Canada’s executive rabbinical board. Rabbi Kaplan is featured regularly on many local television and radio shows. He is a sought after speaker, with hundreds of lectures on Chabad.org. He and his wife, Faygie, are blessed with eight children. Artistically endowed, the rabbi enjoys drawing, sketching and creating charcoal portraits.

When we complete our circle and return to the upper worlds, we'll be clothed with the Shekinah. We'll be clothed with the sun (Jacob) with the moon (the Skekinah/Mother Rachel) having overcome. The crowns of Light will cover our heads. Reply

interesting fact I work with Jewish children and often notice that Jews do not know about this idea of right arm, leg, foot, etc being clothed first. I always try and dress the children according to halacha, but am cautious of telling other Jews about this, as they do not always accept it in the spirit in which I would like it to be taken. Pity we have lost our own traditions.
I told a Hindu woman I work with about the correct way of dressing for Jews and then she told me she always did this and her mother as well. Reply

How to dress, by the Torah, or Is nudeity correct? I found this lecture extremely interesting. In fact the good advise seems never to fail for us all. However, as inventions make so many differences, I can only think , in comparison, the Kosher laws were to protect germs from entering a broken dish and with the new items, we are far more protected to evade germs. As to the swimming pool, this is a health reason and not a nudity reason and I believe the dress for swimming is to cover her private parts and give her the benefit of freedom for excercise.
By all means, go swimming in the modest way you feel comfortable Reply

getting dressed Perhaps it's strange but I know who dresses me, because of the massive synchronicity in my life. I see something and it's very deep. For example, I might wear an unusual necklace, with an animal on it, and then find myself seated next to someone with this same animal, or a particular striped top, and then find myself talking to somehow with similar stripes. This is total in my life, and I know, therefore, that G_d dresses me, and maybe this is a very strange thing to say. Reply

swimming? The swimming pool I visit twice a week, by doctors recomendation, is a women only schedule. I have been made fun as to be wearing my grand mothers swim suit; I go in after everybody and out before everybody and shower at home.

But after having heard today's lecture I am not sure I sholud be swimming at all.
